NEWS/UK

On Tuesday evening, the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE) will host a conference by Özdil Nami called ‘What the Future Holds for the Cyprus Talks’. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place during the TRNC Foreign Minister’s visit to London where he is expected to hold meetings with British Government officials.

Chaired by the LSE’s Dr James Ker-Lindsay, the conference is expected to shed light on current thinking in the Turkish Cypriot camp given the Greek Cypriot leader’s unilateral decision to suspend the Cyprus talks last autumn. Even with renewed international interest in the divided island, the rising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean coupled with the complications offered by the discovery of hydrocarbons off the South Cyprus coast have added to the challenges in resolving this long-running political dispute, now over half-a-century old.

A member of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) – the main coalition partner in the TRNC Government
and regarded internationally as a progressive force, Özdil Nami will share his thoughts on how recent developments can be leveraged positively to bring both sides back to the negotiating table to finally resolve the Cyprus Problem in the months ahead.
